David Odoom
David Odoom is a highly experienced Ghanaian drummer and percussionist whose musical journey began at the age of seven in his hometown of Takoradi, Ghana. Introduced to traditional Ghanaian drumming through a cultural dance group alongside his elder brother, he developed a strong rhythmic foundation that continues to shape his distinctive playing style today.
At the age of eleven, David transitioned to the drum kit, beginning his career in church music where he refined his technical skills, versatility, and passion for live performance. Over the years, he has grown into a sought-after drummer known for his ability to blend traditional African rhythms with contemporary styles, creating dynamic and engaging performances across a variety of musical genres.
Throughout his career, David has had the privilege of performing and collaborating with some of Ghana’s most respected musicians. His professional experience includes work with renowned artists such as Gyedu-Blay Ambolley, Dela Botri, A.B. Crentsil, and Jewel Ackah. These collaborations helped shape his musical identity and deepen his appreciation for Ghana’s rich musical heritage.
In addition to his work within Ghana, David has developed strong international connections through long-term cultural exchange and performance projects in Switzerland. Since 2013, he has collaborated with Swiss musicians including Beda Ehrensperger, founder of Beda’s Event Center in Ghana, as well as Stephan Keller and Dominic Eschmann. These ongoing partnerships have enabled him to perform in multicultural settings and contribute to projects that promote artistic exchange between Africa and Europe.
Today, David Odoom serves as the drummer for SunJamma Band, where his powerful groove, technical precision, and deep understanding of African rhythms form a vital part of the band's energetic live performances.
